shield 9mm shooting left??

Just picked up a M&P Shield in 9mm. Shot it today and it shoots 3" left at 25 feet. The book says to move the front sight not the rear. Anyone ever do this with a brass punch? Want to move the front sight to the left... any idea's?? Thanks

Have someone else shoot the gun to verify it's the gun shooting left and not how you are holding the gun. Google up pistol correction chart. It will tell you what your problem is...for right hand it's too little trigger finger on the trigger. Try that before drifting your sight.

Re: shield 9mm shooting left??

I'd definitely have someone else shoot it to insure that it's the pistol, not a shooters error, before I started drifting the front sight.
Analysis Charts are helpful but don't answer all the reasons that could cause your bullet to impact differently than your perceived point of aim.
Drifting sometimes loosens the sight and requires wedging or tapping down the edge of the dovetail to keep it from moving again. 3" won't require much movement and needs to be done very gradually.

I'm no expert shooter but I do have 7 handguns and I don't think it's me.

I have drifted rear handgun sights with brass punches and it will mar the finish slightly. If that is a concern you could try a nylon punch. I PMed you a link for one. If you are consistently shooting left then the sight needs moved.

Unless all 7 handguns are the same they will all have unique grip requirements. It takes 2 min to let someone else shoot a mag thru it to be sure. Seen It MANY times. Different shooter different POI. If not...move the sight. Like pap said it may require staking the sides of thesight afterward to ensure it stays put.

What does it matter how someone else shoots the pistol?

Re: shield 9mm shooting left??

Like bownut said different pistols are often gripped differently by the shooter, the trigger finger positioning on a DA semi vs DOA semi vs SOA semi vs SA revolver and DA revolver all can cause different POI's.

Re: shield 9mm shooting left??

Exactly. The pistol needs to be sighted in for the person that is going to be carrying/shooting it.

Re: shield 9mm shooting left??

i have a sight pusher, but im in fayette county. Brass punchs work fine though. I had to drift the one on my glock not to long ago. Same deal, just a hair left, now its deadly.
