Time to try Maine!!

Well, this fall is coming together nicely!! In a few weeks the Mrs and I head up to Maine with our oldest English Setter. We (I) get to do some grouse/woodcock hunting and we both get to hit the waters with the fly rods!! Really looking forward to getting on the beautiful streams in the Eustis/Rangeley/Stafford area. A whole week of fin and feather!! Life is good!!

Re: Time to try Maine!!

Been there a few times to hunt and fish for land-locked salmon, but never to hunt birds and fly fish for trout. Should be interesting. Pix to follow!!

Re: Time to try Maine!!

Try Lake Umbagog nar Errol for SM.
it's on the NH and maine border so either state's license will suffice
You will not be disappointed;i was there for a week exactly 1 yr ago today and was very pleased

Re: Time to try Maine!!

Passed Umbagog on our way up. Fished a bit 2 days. Problem was most waters were closed to trout fishing due to spawning season. Had to fish bigger waters that were open for catch and release, which is what we do anyway. I don't like big water, so streams were out for us. We did however get into the birds!! Flushed 29 grouse, shot at 14 and bagged 9. Saw 8 woodcock, shot at 4 and bagged 3. Our oldest English Setter was amazing!! He stayed inside 35 yards and circled the woods nicely for us. Had a few productive points on his first grouse and doodles!! Took the Ithaca Flues 20g, 2 1/2" with 26" barrels and the Franchi AL 48 Super 28g. Looking forward to hunting birds there again. I'll post pix when I move them to my cpu.
