Limestone, Trout, & Ants

Was going to be in a vicinity of a limestoner this morning to run an errand, decided to get up a littler earlier to try my luck for a short while.

Rewarded with this nice 18" rainbow.

The next one of equal size broke me off when he got tangled up in some underwater brush.

Spotted this one rising near an undercut bank and he gingerly sipped in the ant on the 1st cast.

Quickly ran a tape measure on him reading 21", snapped a couple of pics and he headed back to his home.

Wishing I had more than an hour to fish, but had to get going and opted to quit on a high note.

That's a nice fish and those are some nice photo's! What kind of a net is that? I like the looks of it.

Re: Limestone, Trout, & Ants

Thanks all for the nice comments.

The net is a wooden Catskill 20 1/2 made in the good ole USA; I remember seeing them some place in a sporting goods store, but this one I found while fishing probably five or six years ago. Makes up for the nets I have lost in previous years .

It's a nice deep net that easily handles the bigger ones. Generally only use it on the bigger trout to lessen playing them to exhaustion and to prevent tippet break off.

Trying to improve with the pics, experimenting with settings on my Kokak pocket size easy share, took these using closeup mode. I am afraid to carry the "Cannon" while wading.

Easier to carry the smaller camera too. Pictures are good, and as mentioned on here before, it is tough to get a good fish picture, due to glare, time out of water, etc.

Brown Foam ant. I had dabbed some high visibility green on the front to help these old eyes to locate the ant on the water. The h.v. green did not work as intended as it turned to be a drab green. Never the less, the trout did not seem to mind the color, might have thought it to be an ant with a blade of grass .
