Lunker Brown on Pine Creek, Potter/Tioga

Gentlemen,
About 10:20 last night we were fishing the main Pine,
and throwing some #12 3x Long Parachute Coffin Flies hoping to raise some big fish. Got slammed by a serious German Brown who took off down stream, after a chase and
some play we landed the Big Girl and got one picture of her before she tail slapped my 6x and was gone. Ya got to love Pine Creek just after Dark for catching serious fish.

Sorry about the poor quality of the picture, the fish never did settle down enough to take a really good picture and eventually broke the 6x tippet with a tail slap, as she wound herself in the 12' leader. Real active fish after dark
can be a hand full, especially when trying to take a picture, even with 1 guy landing and the other man taking the pictures.

IF you were fishing with a bamboo fly rod, you would've landed that brutess! lol

NICE FISH! When in Tennessee, fish the South Holston. Those fish are quite large also and the hatches are incredible!! 6000 fish per mile, according to a friend who runs a drift boat service there.....
Canefly

Do good and disappear........

I stayed up all night to prove to myself I don't snore.

Re: Lunker Brown on Pine Creek, Potter/Tioga

Joe,
You are absolutely correct, the slow action Graphite does not bend all the way over to the stream like the old F.E. Thomas Bamboo Rod does. Tenn has come a long way with their fish program, no doubt about it!

Henery D,
Water Temps still in the low 60's on the Pine, hatches are the problem, these 2, 90 plus degree days are not helping anything. Very lean hatch last night.

TN45,
Thanks much we do have a ball Fly Fishing the Pine and its feeder streams, as CraneFly (Joe) incidated you now have some serious Fly Fishing in Tenn also!

Pahoytman,
Come up and Fish with us some time, we have a ball.

Yes the Holston is up by Bristol, about 2 hr NE from me. I'll get there some day but the streams around here the Smokies are pretty good.

Re: Lunker Brown on Pine Creek, Potter/Tioga

There is a man that lives in Avis PA if he is still alive. He used to hunt with us. He fished flys at night all the time and it was literaly nothing for him to catch trout over 20 inches. Wish I would have went with him and learned a few things. He fished Pine Creek. Messed around the creek back when we were camping at night and saw a huge brown trolling the weed edge like a shark. Man he was big. I think that fly fishing at night is another world and opens the door to catching lunker trout. Not sure what patterns he used but I do know they were big flies. If he is still around he has to be pushing 70 or more by now.

You canít get them if you ainít in the woods!!

Re: Lunker Brown on Pine Creek, Potter/Tioga

Clinton County,
The man you met was a friend of my fathers,
John and my father are both doing their night fishing in heaven now. Both men were US Navy SeaBees, WWII 46th SeaBee's, and both avid fly fisherman. Both men would have been in their early 90's now. My Father actually taught John how to tie the flies he used for night fishing Pine Creek. I still use those same patterns for Fly Fishing Pine Creek today, he taught me also. The large Brownie pictured below, has one of those Big Parachure Flies sticking out of his mouth.
The big fish was caught just after dark around 9:30 in the evening, pictured and released back to Pine Creek.
