Dealing with being haunted?

First off, my apologies to those unfortunate enough to be within ear shot of me Sunday morning on Penns. I don't usually use that kind of language or yell it that loudly when I do, but...

I broke off a brown trout Sunday that felt like a steelhead and looked like a tank...and I can't stop thinking about it! (I guess that's what I get for cheating and using a nymph underwater ) He might have been my biggest fish on the fly rod ever, certainly in the top 3. Going to try for him again tomorrow, but I know the odds are against me ever seeing him again, let alone tricking him into taking another nymph. What's the best way to deal with the mental anguish?

Tagout let me have some of his Sam Adams to help out and told me to "suck it up you big baby."...but he didn't even offer me a hug!

Catch-and-Release wild trout.

Apparantly some real monsters have been frequenting Penns recently most likely from upstream on the posted property. When I was up there in May the locals told me of a true monster taken below Coburn. Although that stream has always had some real nice fish.

Re: Dealing with being haunted?

Yeah, I've caught several between 20" and 24" in the past and this acted nothing like that. When he decided to run there was nothing I could do. He snapped the 6x a few yards from being in my backing. I had another one this year that was in the 20-24" range break me off on a snag and I felt much more in control of that situation then I did on Sunday. That fish I would have landed if I had known the snag was down there at the time...not sure what I could have done differently on this one.

Catch-and-Release wild trout.

Re: Dealing with being haunted?

It's times like that you just relive the encounter and enjoy the memory, what more can you do? You fish hard and smart for moments like that win or lose it's all good...

pullin strings, flingin flies and scraping stones...
