flies?

As you know, I have a new flyrod coming (It'll be here Friday according to cabela's ) I'm going to run over to my local Gander Mountain tonight and pick up a couple leaders and some tippet. I was also going to grab a few flies while I'm there. I know for sure I'll grab a few hare's ear nymphs. Any other suggestions for fishing this time of year? I know it depends on what is hatching when it comes to dry flies but as far as terrestrials, etc, what would you guys recommend?

I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.

Re: flies?

I'll be fishing Spring Creek near my camp in Elk Co. I know when I was there a couple weeks ago, there were quite a few grass hoppers around. I fished a beaded hare's ear then and was killing the fish on it.

Re: flies?

I looked up what they are and you're right. I see those in that creek all the time.

Re: flies?

Buckethead,
I was taught that after a boy is 12 years old he should be dry fly fishing and learning to draw fish to his properly presented fly, not cheating underneath with nymphs,
buggers and such. Purchase some sulphers for this time of year, along with some other drys and learn to draw fish to your flies top side. Use good 6X and 7X constant tapered leaders, make your fly look real to the big fish, learn how to read the water and have a great time Fly Fishing both streams and lakes.

Re: flies?

I get where your coming from, but thats horrible advice.

Im assuming this guy is just starting out fly fishing, why discourage him with only fishing dries?
