Finding Brookie Streams

I know that there are maps of all class A wild trout streams in pa. I have looked them over time and time again and fished a few places. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck finding brookie streams in western pa Butler County, Armstrong, Lawrence, Allegheny etc. Where they are not known to be? I want to do some poking around and look but dont want to waste the gas and time if its pointless looking for them where they just arent able to be/survive.

Im not looking for any spots or any locations or hints or anything of the sort. Just wondering if looking around trying to find streams with brookies in them in Butler and surrounding areas is a waste of time...?

Thanks guys, tight lines

Re: Finding Brookie Streams

Talk around to locals and look at maps,Particulary (your county here) GIS,take a look at maps of the county or towns in your historical society or town halls. Also check out on the maps at bigger streams then take a look at its tributaries same with lakes or dams.I see you are some what near the alleghenies check out streams in there. Also the allegheny river.I looked up your area quick and saw you should maybe check out these places im not saying there are brook trout here I'm just saying there is potential here.Big Run,Pine Run,Sipes Run,Long Run,Ferrier Run,Cherry Run,Greys Run,Stewart Run,Aultmans Run,Roaring Run,Elders Run,Long Run,Flat Run,Roaring Run,Carnahan Run,Guffy Run.But of course with all these locations I have given you the best thing to do and what will be mandatory is get some feet on the ground and actually walk around and fish places to find out.
Good luck Brook Trout are some of the best fishing in the USA and the world.

"Also check out on the maps at bigger streams then take a look at its tributaries"

BANG, spot on, best way to find healthy tribs is to start with a relatively healthy main stem, and a lot of those tribs are not listed on any fish commission lists.

Re: Finding Brookie Streams

good ideas guys! I guess I should have specified a little more on what I am asking. Has anyone had luck finding brookie streams in or around Butler County here in western PA? I know that there are none listed on any maps, but I have a hard time believing that there are not waters holding brook trout.

Re: Finding Brookie Streams

I don't know of any streams that hold brookies in either lawrence or western butler county. Just a little north in southern venango county you begin to find them. I haven't fished it in several years but there is a very small steam in lawrence county that has native browns.

Re: Finding Brookie Streams

I have been to that stream penndraght, i understand they are in venango. Might have to check them out, dont know the county at all so it will take a lot of research first.

I have been told my a couple old timers that they are around and IN butler, but of course noone wants to spill the beans nor do I ask. I dont know what to believe.

Re: Finding Brookie Streams

Bump!

Is it even possible/likely that wild brook trout exist in Butler County? I dont have any friends or mentors really that fish for wild trout because of the lack of them. I know of some rural areas where I wouldnt imagine that the water would be polluted, just unsure if its just not possible or there just arent any streams that hold natives in this area.

Yes now get you're butt off the computer and go explore some streams and fish, people won't spoon feed you where they are.It is definatly a possibility they are in many places.Go look for them and fish.
