Central PA Report

I spent Friday through Sunday fishing in Central Pa. Most of our fishing occurred on Penns Creek. The green drakes will be on this week. We hit light green drake activity in Weikert and had success with green drake, sulphur and march brown nymphs and wet flies from Coburn to Weikert. Fished the Little J around Spruce Creek as well. The J is running very low and clear. Did well with a 12 foot leader and 6x and 7x tippet. Sulphurs, BWOs and Crane Flies worked well for me.

If you're able to get to Penns or the surrounding fisheries, go get 'em. This will be the week for the drakes.

Re: Central PA Report

I was on Penns last Monday thru Friday. Ingleby thru Coburn. Sulfurs and march browns were working every evening on top and all day thursday. Caddish as well.

The drakes started coming off on yellow creek in numbers beginning of last week...so they should be starting up there soon

Re: Central PA Report

Agreed. From what I heard, Friday night from Glen Iron to Weikert was great, despite the cold. Saturday I was there for it, and it wasn't as thick. There were some green drakes coming off and a bit of a spinner fall as well. I caught 6 small mouth bass on a male green drake dun. For whatever reason every riser I picked off was a bass while my crew were catching trout. The reports are suggesting it's hitting all the way up into Cherry Run now.

fished at cherry run last night. tons of bugs, most taking emergers. More top action down stream a mile or so according to the locals ---ing at our vehicles. Should be good tonight at cherry run

Re: Central PA Report

spangler, what emerger?? do ya know.. fished cherry run the other day at first light. it was tough, picked up a nice brown on a blue quill dry. couple smaller browns on slate drake nymphs. but to be honest i worked hard for those , and didnt see another angler catch a fish. evenings are better I know, but time was limited. gonna try again as well. drakes were on the water riding pretty, but no takers!

Re: Central PA Report

Shoot for a green drake emerger, or a black stone.. I caught mine using a size 10 female drake dun, dancing it around the water. tight lines!
