A buddy of mine & I spent the weekend on a river chasing trout, I had early success but he landed the big fish of the trip.
I caught 6 nice bows, all on dry flies, as darkness came the rises continued and I saw a small rise down stream, I drifted my fly down and it was taken, a big fish, but I didn't think it was a trout, a strong steady pull, I thought I had hooked into a big carp but got it closer and realized I had a big bomber brown
It measured out at 21 inches, and fat like a football.
Next day was my buddies turn, shortly after we got on the river I hear him yelling "Palomino ~~!!" He was way out in the river and I watched him struggle with the fish and the current until he finally netted the beast, 23 inches of yellow submarine.
If that ain't a smiling Irishman
We had rain Saturday afternoon which spoiled the evening hatches but we both managed some more very nice trout, and I somehow got into the chubs while fishing an early day sulfur hatch, you can see some lesions on fish and Joe Ackourey's spent sulfur imitation in the pic
All in all a good weekend, just wished the rain had held off instead of putting a stop to my dry fly action. Sometimes you get over confident and end up getting schooled by mother nature and the river, but that's trout fishing.
