Week on Penns Creek - Update #1
Here is a very quick update on our week on Penns Creek so far.....exhausted and will try to post a few pics later in the week.
Saturday - hit the water around 4:30 - water looked like chocolate milk and was on the rise. Had to hit them on the head with the nymph but we did OK considering the water coler.
Sunday - big water on Penn's and still very brown with lots of wind. Had to fish the edges and work hard for them but we did OK - our group did manage to take 2 fish on dries but pretty much purely a nymph game.
Monday - cold and super windy - felt like early March instead of mid May. Color was much improved but flows were still on the high side for sure. Picked at them all day with the fish very active for an hour in the afternoon. Good sulfer hatch around 4:00 with no fish rising. Lost the biggest brown I have ever hooked on Penns after a 3-4 minute battle.......legit 24-25 inch pig..threw the hook.
Tuesday - great weather, great water clarity but still at 560 cfs this morning. Bright sun shuts Penns down in my opinion and it hurt us today. Good sulfer hatch, few March Browns and lots of craneflies.......very few fish rising again. 5 of us landed 50 fish today with plenty more lost in the high water.........we took 6 fish on dries today.
Getting better every day!
