FFO Slippery Rock Creek

Buddy & I were thinking of making the 1 1/2 your drive to fish FFO Slippery Rock Creek. Never fished it before, wondering if it is worth the ride. What is the water like ? Is it stocked? Fished at McConnell Mills as a teenager. I didn't know if the water at FFO was the same

The slippery rock FFO is downstream of McConnell's Mills. I haven't been there in years, but from what I recall it's pretty flat water for the most part, not a lot of "features". The FFO area is really small...maybe like 1000-2000 yards long. It's all stocked. I used to drive 1.5 hours to fish there from Pittsburgh, but that's because any half decent trout fly fishing was 1.5 hour drive from Pittsburgh. IMO it's not worth a special trip. Neshannock is close and much more popular.

Slippery Rock Creek in the gorge is a beautiful stream in a beautiful setting.

I would go there rather than the DH area, because of the scenic beauty.

It's stocked with trout and also has smallmouth bass.

The FFO section is really short and gets pretty crowded...…Also watch out for rain it gets muddy very fast

This stream gets very high and fast. So be careful if wading, as the name inplys the rocks are real slippy. If you get washed into a rapid with waders in you are in trouble However the stream is not very wide so no need to wade out far Water stays aerated well with all the rapids. Also this is a very popular whitewater kayaking run,but we respect those who fish. Access to stream via hiking trail river left is best. Parking is very limited at the Mill. None of this answered how the fishing is but I'd presume good. Neshanock stream slightly north is also good. None of those dam kayakers either.

Parking is extremely limited in the gorge. I tried to fish it but could not find parking. neshannock is nice but it gets packed and the fish are picked over already by the shop if you aren't there by 7am.
