Question Forksville

I attended the bow hunters' festival this past weekend. I'm just learning to fly fish so I took my stuff along in the hope of fishing the Loyalsock. I walked along the creek from the festival to the church for breakfast and saw some great pools, but no fish rising. I planned to fish it Sat. evening, but after the walk and the call of chili, I didn't get my line wet. Should I have fished it?

Hunting hobby ended, now I'm a fly fisherman!

The Sock gets pretty warm in the summer. I'm not sure how many of the stocked trout survive this late in the year.

There are smallmouth bass there, though. There are long, shallow stretches in the Sock. Try to find a place where there is a riff flowing into a pool, a place with some rocky structure. Take some time to find good looking spots, just as with trout fishing.

A friend of mine said he once went to the Sock in early June hoping to catch trout, and he was casting a standard dry fly, like a Light Cahill or something, and caught a 21 inch smallmouth bass!
