Fishing

Hi guys I haven't gotten out much for winter fishing, can't wait for trout season to open up. What do you guys prefer for early season (fly wise). And what do you guys fish in the winter and fall months. Just curious thanks.

Re: Fishing

The first, most basic question: where do you intend to fish?

Would be helpful, but I fish a lot of caddis, midges, stones and small nymphs... to be honest I pretty much use the same patterns all year unless something is hatching.

Re: Fishing

attackone, in general I would agree with you. But some streams like the Letort Spring Run or Falling Springs call for some specific patterns for best success like scuds, cress bugs, small nymphs to imitate Baetis, or a decent Sculpin imitation. And of course midges. It would be good to know which streams (or type of streams) the OP fishes most often. To your list I would add wooly buggers, streamers, bead head nymphs, and zebra midges. Good suggestions on your part, happy new year.
