need help from a rod builder

I bought some rod tubes at an auction and the one case was marked 4 piece 9 foot 5 wt rod.. I went to assemble the rod and there is a gap. Should I dremel some off to make it fit or should I take some emery cloth over it to make it fit?
Here is a pic of what I am talking about

it's called a spigot ferrule; don't do anything, that's the way it's designed. as the insert wears it will get closer together, thereby extending the life of the rod.

nice write up on spigot ferrules

Re: need help from a rod builder

Just a thought, I see in your pic that the rod is bare at the edges of the ferrule. all the rods I've seen have thread wraps, somewhat decorative, with alignment dots, see the pic in the link. It would be a somewhat simple project to do that, it helps dress the rod up and adds strength to too.

go to youtube and see how to do wraps,

Thanks RIZ. I never had a fly rod with a gap like this. I own Cortland, Scott, St Croix and G Loomis fly rods that seat flush.
