Mini Swivels And Tippet Rings

Been using 2mm and 3mm tippet rings for a while now. It really saves my leaders. Just picked up some mini swivels in size 14 and 16. Man, are they small! Has anybody else ever used a mini swivel?

Yes, I also use small swivels and tippet rings. The swivels work just as well as tippet rings if you are nymphing and they are alot cheaper.

Re: Mini Swivels And Tippet Rings

I just use a standard barrel swivels. never had any issues. Put about 3-4 ft of flourcarbon to first fly then 18" to second fly. Never had any issues with trout not hitting because of seeing the swivel. But then again I am maninly fishing for stockies.

I use small barrel swivels for nymphing but switch to tippet rings for dry flies. I think the swivels may be a little heavy to fish drys.

Yes, the swivels are way to heavy for dries. But the 2mm rings don't seem to effect the dries at all. I rubbed a little Frogs fanny on the rings and they float as well. Had some issues with the 3mm rings on Saturday with the tippet and leader twisting on the eight weight. I used a size 16 swivel, that ended the twisting.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Never knew that.

This is what I am seeing for the leader regulations

##Fishing must be done with tackle limited to fly rods, fly reels and fly line with a maximum of 18 feet in leader material or monofilament line attached. Spinning, spincast and casting rods and reels are prohibited##

The swivel can not be counted as part of the leader material? Or am I missing something on there?

Re: Mini Swivels And Tippet Rings

I have used them and I really like them. They sure do save me some money from buying more leaders. Didn't know about that reg about not using them in FFO areas.
