Native Streams

I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on good native trout spots near the Gettysburg/Biglerville area. Maybe even in the state forest. I fish the bigger streams like the Breeches, Big Spring, Falling Springs, etc., but I would like to be able to catch some native brookies. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Native Streams

Go to just about any stream in the Michaux.

TU and a bunch of other organizations just did a big project in the former Birch Run Reservoir impoundment. Res was drained years ago. Conococheague creek flows through it. They installed 20 some habitat structures. ALOT of natives in there... Carbaugh Run is a Class A wild brook trout stream. it flows from Carbaugh Res, down to Rt. 30.

Tom's Run, from Camp Michaux down to Pine Grove Furnace is also a Class A wild brook trout stream.

Mountain Creek, Dead Woman's Hollow, all have brookies in em...

Good luck!

Re: Native Streams

What flies would you suggest for those brookies?

Re: Native Streams

Brookies are spawning on the redds right now. I would suggest waiting until spring time to try ..

Re: Native Streams

Def wait till spring
I always use a #10 royal coachman. Just a fly my buddie and I always use when we are out "caining" brookies.
