Opening day rigs

What rod/reel and fly or flies will you start with Saturday?

I will be carrying my Cabela's 3 forks 7'6" 3wt with okuma sierra reel. I will start off with an indicator rig fishing a prince nymph and probably a cream sucker spawn dropped off of it.

It's not luck if success is consistent.

Re: Opening day rigs

10 foot sage one 4 weight with lamson litespeed for high sticking. Probably use a hares ear with a caddis tandem.

8 foot hardy zenith 4 wt with hardy DD3300 for dries. 2 of the past 3 years (last year was a blowout) years I did well with hendricksons, BWOs and or grannom caddis.

Getting excited as I haven't found time to get out yet and I keep a few from put and take streams to eat the first weekend.

Re: Opening day rigs

Home-built rod (Jann's Netcraft IM6 blank) 7'6" 4 wt junky reel I got for 15 bucks. Indicator rig with san juan worms, burnt salmon eggs, bh hare's ear, whatever they will bite. My wife will be using the same rig except a redington 7'6" 4 wt I picked up the other day for $50. If I can make it work, I may try to get something to hit on top with a chernobyl ant or something. We shall see...

A bad day hunting rabbits beats a good day of anything else!

9 foot 5 Wt. St. Croix, Okuma reel, Rio line, Maxim leader tipped with rio 5x. Probably start with a size 8 golden stone (highly prevelant in the stream I'll be fishing) and either caddis larva or san juan worm. Friday I'll be fishing DHALO and native streams. Good luck Evan!

Re: Opening day rigs

Will be using my Risen ITB test rod, in 9' 5 wt with Risen Ichthus reel. Will be taking my 10' Allen xa 4 weight with 4 wt risen reel as well.

Most likely start off with my favorite pheasant tail, and go with a peeping caddis anchor fly. My end up throwing a few stones as well.

Either going to hit up yellow creek or "Sproul" in Claysburg on the opener.

Will be fishing the yellow creek FFO area tomorrow around 12.

Re: Opening day rigs

Won't be fishing Saturday because of the blue white game. Sunday will be on the water on Asaph with an Echo Carbon 3wt and Cortland Pro Series reel with hand tied 5x nymph leader bumping BH pheasant tail nymph with a peeping Caddis trailer.

Only the owners of a GSP would truly understand, "If I fits, I sits".

Re: Opening day rigs

Man I slammed them on a grey squirrel nymph on opening day. My trusty fly brought about 8-9 to hand before the ribbing got bit through. Took it off and still caught fish. Not sure why it was the ticket.

Frenchies, and hares ear also worked well. Only caught one on a bead head pheasant tail.
