Fishing Kinzua

I have a camp about 1/4 mile from the lake and was just wondering of some tips on hunting some musky from shore. Hot baits or spots if possible. I do pretty well on illegal size walleye and nice smallies but other than that the lake just seems real hard to fish unlike the streams in that area. Thanks

DL, not to rain on your parade, just telling it like it is, but you probably have a better chance of finding a pot of gold held by leprechauns at the end of a rainbow than to get a Kinzua miskie fisherman to give something up. Successful Kinzua fishermen are among the tightest lipped there are. It's not an easy lake to fish. Keep after it though. You do learn after putting in your time.

I've caught Walleye from shore at Webb's Ferry, but muskie are harder to come by. In the past I heard Sugar Bay was ok, but I don't know anymore. Good luck.

Re: Fishing Kinzua

No success for me. Didn't target muskies much & only been there a few times over 10 years ago. We caught small eyes and pike. Saw a few decent pike in the no wake coves. Caught some white bass too. Not sure where to point you for shore fishing, although I did see people walk down and fish the bank at nights in the coves that we were fishing. My guess is that it will be tough to shore fish there for muskies. If I go again I'll probably troll most of the time. Good luck!

Re: Fishing Kinzua

Ya I usually fish the area around Red Bridge, Elijah, and Kiasutha and do well on smallmouth and illegal eyes. I have hooked a few "log" pike but usually just 20inchers. I know the lake holds some real giants though based on the pics at the local bait store.

The PA state record pike is from Kinzua.

Re: Fishing Kinzua

Fish Kinzua from the boat once or twice a year for 'eyes.

Oddly enough I've NEVER seen a pike. Musky, yes. Pike, no.

Re: Fishing Kinzua

Adam.... Yeah the bait shop by my camp did the measurements on it. I know the spot well where the record was caught. Through the Ice too boot! I hope to get off work and get up there for memorial day weekend. Im overdue for a classy trip to the BuckHorn

Re: Fishing Kinzua

You used classy and the Buckhorn in the same sentence. You can only mean the place in Kane. LOL

I was just there for the trout opener weekend!
