early season advice?

Early summer last year I contracted (TCS) toothy critter syndrome. I practically quit fishing for everything else just to dedicate my time to learning(struggling) how to boat these magnificent fish. After 7 months, a couple fish, severe wrist pains and hundreds(maybe more ) of dollars into gear I see this illness is here to stay. Ive been dying to get out and grind but ive never fished for them feb - may before. Now that ive decided to face the fact that ice season has been taken from us due to this mild winter...Is it to early to start muskie fishin? Where and how? Lures? Tactics? Any tips would be helpful. Im still a rookie and I could use any kind of advice! Thanks to everyone and have a great/safe 2012 season.

Re: early season advice?

Welcome to the addiction! It hit me like a ton of bricks too. It's never to early to start. I caught my last fish in November and I just haven't had the time to be out this year yet. Are you fishing rivers or lakes? Rivers, look for deep holes with little current and fish slow. Lakes, deeper water and look for baitfish. They are going to be where there is food. Make sure you head up for the Butler fishing show on the 11-12th. Lots of musky gear and people to talk to.

Thats great advice! I'll be at the show. Looking forward to Howard Wagners seminar. Its all about winter fishing in rivers so that should be just the advice ya need!

Re: early season advice?

Im sad to say I came down with a cold and had to miss the show. I really wanted to attend it so I could get some advice on where to start musky fishing in the winter. Oh well, maybe next year!
