Anybody musky fishing?

Ice is all messed up in my neck of the woods, rivers are full of ice bergs and I'm just dying to get back in the swing of things. Last fish we caught was on the open Susque in January. Finally got back out on open water last weekend but the ice bergs started coming down around 9AM. Fished the rest of the day, but not where or how we were hoping to. Remembering a post from last winter........ I'm just curious how the real musky fishermen are doing? Just wish I had productive open water to join them!

There is always a season!

Re: Anybody musky fishing?

Dr. I heard a little rumor a muskie was caught in our neck of the woods that was just shy of the state record!! I am a bit optimistic on this but I would love to see this beast!!

Aim small miss small

Re: Anybody musky fishing?

The Potomac is high, coming down, but going back up on Sunday. I've been out three times since Christmas. We got 6 total, but nothing big.
My friend and I went to the New River back in January. He got a 45.5" 25lb fish, his PB.
I'm dying to get back out.

The river up here in Susquehanna county is still mostly solid ice from shore to shore.

Re: Anybody musky fishing?

Got my first musky while bass fishing at nockamixon. It was the greatest catch for me ever. Caught it on a rubber frog. It was so awesome!

Re: Anybody musky fishing?

Hey Ed - Saw muskyrat's pic with his boy in Musky Hunter magazine! Congrats!

Luck - I'll believe the rumors when I have more than a newspaper editors hype. I see big fish get overestimated way to much in our area by people not familiar with big fish. 4 footers become 5 footers, 21 to 23 inch girths become 26 to 29 inch fish. I suspect that it may have been a big fish, but over 50lbs? I'll wait to hear more. My guess is it was a big fish (possibly a few inches bigger than it really was) with an overestimated girth that resulted in an inflated estimate of "near state record." If the pics really exist and the fish is really big enough to call a "near record," we are gonna see a true beast of a river musky! Until then.......I'm still scratching my head on how it was caught Monday? I'm a die-hard for fishing muddy & high, but that was "near flood conditions" if memory serves me. I'd give the guy props for catchiong ANY musky that day!

There is always a season!

I have to stick with it when it's muddy. I usually get a bad attitude thinking the fish are holding way to tight and are very inactive. How differently do you fish when the water is high/muddy?

Re: Anybody musky fishing?

Did I ever post this? My friend and I took a trip down to the New River in VA. This fish when 45.25" and 25-1/4 lbs. Ken's PB. Blind in the eye facing the camera.
