First Musky

......and it was a good one, but I deleted the photos because there was too much crying going on. Next time have replicas made of the bucks you could have shot.

Re: First Musky

That's a hog. What a great fish.

I'm so far behind I think I'm in first place.

Re: First Musky

Nice one Rick. To bad she's dead. If you didn't know.. The only reason she has that much girth is because she hasn't spawned yet.

Re: First Musky

Thanks guys. It came as a shock to me for sure. It took a half hour to reel in on the 10 lb test I was using. I have spent countless hours in the past trying to catch one and always came up empty handed. I had given up trying to fish for them and pretty much resolved myself to the fact that I was probably never going to catch one, although I remained slightly optimistic at a chance encounter such as this.

I wasn't going to keep it, in fact I never do. I've only kept one fish in the past 5 years and you are looking at it. I almost threw it back after some pictures but my good friend talked me into keeping it for the wall. It is at the taxidermist right now, but I will also say that he is cutting the meat off for my friend and I to consume. I tend not to kill things that I don't plan on eating and this fish will be put to good use. Its the cycle of life.

Not sure if its a male or a pregnant female at this point. If it was a pregnant female then it is what it is. Its my first musky in about 30 years of fishing, the season is open year round and I was within my legal right to keep it. As I don't specifically fish for musky, I doubt I will ever catch one again, and certainly not one this big. Thanks again for the compliments. I wish you all a good season as well.

Re: First Musky

I'm not gonna get into it with you guys and I don't feel bad for what I did. Could be the same fish, it likely is. Mine had no spots on the sides of its solid silver head but I guess thanks for making my day. I hope you can find peace when you jump off the high horse you're on. Rest assured, I'm no musky fisherman so the chances of me catching another one are slim. If it will help you sleep at night I release hundreds of fish every year and do much more than that to be a steward of the outdoors. The last fish I kept before this one was because it was hooked in the gills and it got eaten as well. You're point was not missed. Thanks for hijacking my thread and trying to rain on my parade. I've come to expect nothing less than that.
