They are actually pretty nasty to eat. Fun to catch but unlike Saltwater run kings, IMO- these are nasty table fare. The coho are a little better and the steelhead are better yet.

Have to ask, everyone I spoke with that fished and even the online reports said very few fish. This was the first weekend out of the last 5 I didn't head up. Estuary is pretty much empty and even DSR saying little fish movement. The hatchery is full. The salmon have been entering the river since Labor Day, no big runs just a steady trickle. The run is over. Last week they did get some rain up there which caused some fish to finally run up the smaller tribs, which were packed with fishermen more so than I've ever seen. I blame the internet for that.
Not sure what happened to Oswego this season. I fished there a couple times, very few fish. They never had any kind of big pushes there whatsoever. Never been to the Oak, too far. Very poor year for me. Yes, I caught some fish but nowhere near what I have in the past and I've been fishing up there for a very long time.

Fished Pulaski (Salmon River and tribs) from Oct 4-11. Was into fish each day and got limit every day except for two days. Fishing was slow at times but I kept moving and found several gravel bars where fish staged and were spawning. Many fish also stacked against downed trees. Majority of fish were between Pineville and Altmar. First year I used my fly rod and hookups increased 10-fold. Landing them is a different story though. Have a cheap Cabela's reel and definitely need a better one with smooth drag. Friday I went 3 for 28 before heading home. Agree with beagler, not sure what is happening with Oswego. Fishing there is declining and I no longer make a stop there to fish. Drove back roads around the tribs and the private properties that surround Trout Brook and Orwell were full of fish, just can't access the water. Not the best year for fishing but I put many hours in searching for them and was happy with the catches I had. Fish were much larger than last few years.
