Salmon Fly Rod Set Up

I know a few of us on here use a fly rod for Salmon fishing and this past trip of mine I got to use my new set up for a good part of my time on the SR....
My current set up after my backing is RIO InTouch Salmon/Steelhead 7WT Flyline with RIO Spey Versileader 1.5 Sink Rate, swivel, and 12 or 10 lb Seagar Red Label flour leader @ 36" long.
I was watching fish avoid my line which I know happens but when I switched to my spinning set up with the same 12lb leader material my hook rates increased....
I was wondering if the black colored RIO Spey Versileader was messing me up....
I was thinking of maybe getting rid of the sinking versileader and tying 48" of 20 lb clear mono or flour to my fly line then a swivel and then my flour leader.....

From the end of the fly line, use a loop to loop connection then run about 4 feet of 20 pound Maxima Chameleon to a small barrel swivel. Off the bottom of the swivel tie in your fluoro leader up to 48 inches and a separate 3 inch dropper for split shot. That is the rig hands down. On a recent trip, I went from 12 pound fluoro down to 8 pound fluoro in the bright afternoon soon and it made a huge difference in the hook ups. Just need to be patient and take your time with the 8 pound.

I am heading up this evening and it sounds like DSR has some fishing coming up in this morning which is good news!
