This forum posts a wide variety of fishing styles, preferences, and of course opinions. With the opening of the new season weeks away, I thought I would pose some questions to see what people's preferences are. I don't know how to do a poll on this website, but it will be interesting to see the responses. I'm sure there will be a broad range of responses. This is intended to be an inclusive post.

Last year I fished far less, but I typically fish for trout between 60 and 70 times/year.

Though I enjoy fishing all stream sizes. I am not a lake fisherman.

The combination of fall colors and big trout makes the fall my favorite by far.

6.) Do you primarily use:
A. Flies
B. Bait
C. Artificial Lures
D. A combination

I don't fly fish much. When I used to, I used primarily beadhead nymphs. Second would be streamers.

8.) For bait anglers, what is your preferred bait?

I no longer bait fish, though I have nothing against it. When I used to use bait, it was primarily minnows.

Brown trout make up about 80% of my catch on average.

I will start by replying to my own post first. Answers above.


As for the daily limit, I would prefer 3, though I’d like to see a maximum of 2 on wild trout streams. I think 5 is far too high for wild trout streams. But, as I've said before, I think most people who fish wild trout streams are C&R anglers.

I was hoping for a lot of responses to this survey. I wanted to use a poll but it looks like you can have only one question in it, if I understand it correctly. I wanted to ask the questions in one post instead of 22 of them. Moderators, is there a way to utilize the poll feature on this website and ask multiple questions in the same poll? Thanks.

I am no longer the trout fisherman I once was... It's not really that much of a challenge for me once you figure a few things out. However I will respond based off of my many years of chasing trout. PS - I will be going some this year to teach my Niece's kid...not sure if I'll be doing much fishing though .. LOL

I like to use a noodle rod where I can. Allows for better drifts. Also, I like a copolymer line.

Hunting: 10% skill and 90% location.

Good to see the responses ... I excluded my times jigging through the ice for trout from my answers, but the big stocked rainbows can be a lot of fun on the ultra light rods that I normally use for perch. Skipped the fly fishing questions - as the next fish I catch with a fly rod will be the first. Just something I never tried.
