Treble vs Single Hooks

All you spinner users, have you experienced a significant difference in hooked fish when using a treble versus a single hook? Was thinking about making some spinners with singles now that I made like 50some with trebles. I have lures for days...

When I was on a fishing trip in Canada, we had to use single barbless hooks in British Columbia. We used double barbless in Calgary and lost a lot more on the single hooks.

I think it’s much easier for trout to swallow a single hook than a double or treble. I recommend trying a double hook instead.

Yes, major difference. If I was going to use a single hook Id just fly fish that day cause it's a lot more effective than spinner fishing with a single hook and a lot safer for the trout. As TT mentions above, single hooks get swallowed a lot. Regulations that govern lures with single hooks are so badly flawed.

Years ago I fished the Little Red and White Rivers in Arkansas and there were sections that were under single hook regulations. The guide admitted that more trout swallowed the single hooks than the trebles.

When I fished the South Fork of the Snake River, I was the first spin fishing client the guide ever had. I again used double hooks even though it wasn’t required. The guide was surprised how easily the hooks came out and said that they don’t do any more harm than flies.

I believe MD and VA have the unnecessary single hook regulations on some streams.
