In case you haven't heard, world renowned fly fisherman and author Charlie Meck passed away on September 18th.
I first met Charlie in 1996 on Little Pine Creek in northcentral PA. He was in the area to do a signing for his latest book. We fished together for awhile that day and on several other occasions. Charlie was a gentleman who wanted what was best for trout fishing everywhere, but especially in his beloved PA.
Although I am predominantly a spin fisherman, Charlie welcomed fisherman of all tackle choices to the streams, and sometimes when I fished with him I used spinners and sometimes I used flies. It was my privilege to meet and fish with him.
I had not been in contact with Charlie much in the last few years but meant to reach out to him but to my great regret, missed the opportunity.
I wish his family and the angling community condolences at this great loss.
That is a bummer. Regardless of your desired approach to trout fishing Charlie is a PA trout fishing legend. I never met him but I certainly used his writings for all they were worth and I'm not sure I'd be the same trout fisherman today had he not invested all the time he did into the sport.
