stocking change

Because of todays snow storm the PFC changed the stocking of a SE pa stream from today to Saturday. My question is on Saturday will the youths be able to fish the stream right after they dump them in? I'm not here to start a debate on the mentored program, just curios of how that would work.

Since the PFBC wants to make it as easy as possible for kids to catch trout I think they would have no objections to the kids fishing right after they are stocked. During In-Season stockings many adults are fishing right after they are stocked. You could try posting the question on their Facebook page and see if you get a response. You could also try calling the SE Regional office for an answer also.

Based on prior history, you should not have a problem. I remember one time, many years ago, a friend and I were fishing during the season a couple hundred yards downstream and a stocking truck arrived. The driver got out of the truck, walked down to us and said if you guys want fish down here, you'll need to come and get them, so we did. After we helped stock, we went right back to fishing.

I don't think there is a law that mandates a distance from the stocking trucks like the PGC has with the pheasant trucks. I've seen guys standing in the water while the guys from the trucks were dumping trout in the water right next to them. Nothing was ever said.

I understand about stocking and fishing, I was just curious about being the youth mentor opener and a stocking on the same day.

Nah you're fine. Fish away. Fair warning though, to me there is no tougher fish in this earth to catch then a freshly stocked trout right off the truck. I would avoid those streams like the plague. Catch rate is going to be VERY low for at least the first couple of hours.

May not want to get there before the truck does LOL ... There were a dozen guys + kids out last year on a stream that doesn't get stocked till the day before the Regular opener near me last year. I stopped and said you might want to go to stream X (about 2 miles away) some packed up but a couple stayed there. Guess they were out for the experiance.... not to catch any trout. Few hold overs in that section.. lots of suckers, sunnies and fallfish though.
