Gearing up!

I finally started to get into trout fishing. Iíve lived down here since 2010. Grew up in Chautauqua County NY, where I did a lot of bass, walleye, musky, panfishing, but almost NEVER went for trout.

My father in law is an avid trout fisherman during the season, as is his brother.

I love to fish, and figured that if I want to fish, I need to go after trout.

Well...one crazy tournament later, Iím hooked. I spent a LOT more days on the stream last year than I ever have, and fell in love.

This season, my in-laws bought me a Fenwick rod and a pfleuger reel. I just ordered waders, a vest and so much stuff. I feel like a little kid, and Iím 33!

The season doesnít start down here until March 31, but Iím planning to hit some streams for some winter trout just as soon as my face wonít fall off from the cold!

Anyone else start thinking about the season this early?

Welcome to PA, retroactively.

I fish all through the year but I donít go when the weather is as cold as it has been. Many streams have anchor ice. Most freestone streams are frozen over and even some limestoners have significant ice. Itís supposed to warm up into the high 40s on Thursday and the 50s on Friday. Itís also supposed to rain, so the rapid rise in temperatures plus the rain will cause rapid snowmelt, which will make the streams high and green. The trout are extemely sluggish in those conditions, so Iím almost positive I wonít be fishing in the near future.

Thanks!

I want to fish before the season! My waders should be here tomorrow. Hoping they fit (Iím a larger fella-haha!)

After that, I plan to get out a few times if all goes well. Maybe hit some wild streams near me.

Head north or west a bit, some great streams within an hour of you. DHALO streams are great and some hold some large trout (small ones too). They can be finicky, so sneak in and be patient. And have fun!

Thanks! I will definitely have to travel some.

I'm anxiously awaiting getting home today! I got an email from UPS that my waders are out for delivery today!
