Question Dixie Trout Help...maybe?

In a few weeks I am hoping to head south of the Mason Dixon Line to fish for some trout to celebrate making it to middle age. I am revisiting a few streams I used to fish when I lived in Waynesboro, but I also want to explore a bit. I am setting aside a few days to fish the Savage River and tributaries and then fishing our way back to try the Gunpowder. Does anyone have any insight to either of these two rivers...not secret spots or anything like that...just general knowledge that might be useful? I have never fished either of those, so camping, cheap hotels, eating, parking, etc... Anything would be helpful at this point. I, and maybe a buddy or two, will be both fly fishing and slingin' spinners as permitted. Any help at all would be appreciated, feel free to send me a PM if needed...thanks so much!!! Tight Lines

Catch-and-Release wild trout.

Who was the fella from Maryland that always posted the good go pro vids here? I forget his name. He stopped posting with the board change like so many others. He'd be able to help.

Take lots of pics. I love seeing remote locations.

Terphunter....I did send him a message, but I kind of figured he quit posting, though I have watched all his videos! I always take lots of pictures! The one stream I plan on hitting has some great waterfall, I'm almost as excited about photographing it as I am about dropping a beetle in those plunge pools!

The Savage is nice. Plenty of cheap camping at either New Germany State Park or in Savage State Forest all along areas of the lake and Big Run road(I think that's the name). Above the lake is all native brookie fishing. Below the lake is all wild browns. The lower is certainly bigger water and tougher water to wade/fish. Check the kayaking/dam release schedule on the lower Savage, a few times a year they do a big release from the dam for the whitewater kayak crowd and the lower will be virtually unfishable. Pretty much all the little streams in the area of the lake have brookies.

Remember that felt boots are illegal in Maryland. Make sure to clean your gear due to didymo in both those rivers

There is two little general stores in the area of the Savage. 1 up on New Germany road and another down on the road that runs along the lake (savage river road maybe?). No restaurants around that I'm aware of. Sometimes we drive down to Westernport where I think there is a McDonalds and Subway, maybe another small restaurant.

Yeah I think the ban started in 2011-2012.

Heading down there this weekend actually, there are cabins at the NB that are really cheap $33 a night. If you are going to fish the Savage might as well try out the NB also, just be very careful with the wading and its slick fast and deep. Like said before wash your gear because of the rock snot, no need to spread it out anymore.

Thought about the NB, but I wanted to fly fish some of the Savage tributaries and well, there is only so much time. Another time for sure though! Thanks!
