The Struggle is Real!

I spent the majority of this mornings outing keeping a close eye on the thermometer. When I left at 1:00 it was still reading 68, which is great for a hot August day. I didn't have real high hopes for today considering the temps, the clear skies, and I am pretty sure I was fishing a few days behind one of our board professionals, but I trudged on knowing that I could be at home doing housework or fishing.

The sunrise as always make the alarm worthwhile:

Knowing that the trout have most likely seen a gold spinner with a white bead in the last week or so, I decided to try out a blade that Cabelas sent me in error. It looks sharp, but I had kind of figured it would catch more fisherman than fish, but I thought what the heck...5 minutes later this beast was attached to it. He came in between 16-18, probably 16.25, but I like the 16-18" range better.

Caught a bunch in this size range:

Even a decent native:

A few larger, but not many:

The fishing was tough so I just concentrated on practicing my cast placement, spinner movement, etc...I did move 2 GIANTS though. Hopefully I can still get up after them with the fly rod next week if the weather and my rib issue hold out. I think the fly rod would have had been the better plan, but I don't think I could have taken casting it all morning. The upside to the fishing being slow, I didn't waste as much time unhooking trout so I as able to reach parts of the stream I have never personally fished, and I left a lot more to explore another day...

Re: The Struggle is Real!

Are those spinners 1/8 ounce? They look like they might be a touch heavier which would be good for the larger water you were on. you missed a great pun opportunity... the struggle is real~reel

Great composure in that big brown photo, as well as excellent coloring of the specie.

Re: The Struggle is Real!

Nice sunrise photo.

The 15.75" brown in the net is a nice photo, too. Do you have inch markers on your rod to quickly measure trout? It takes the guesswork out of it.

I'm pretty sure I recognize that creek, but I'm just going from memory here and not recent experience.

I can be contacted at [email protected].
