Great Year So Far

I have to say that this has probably been the best year of trout fishing that I have ever had even despite the constant foul weather.

Kicked the year off on the southern opener in Perry County and me son landed this toad of a brookie.

I got in on the act on the northern opener when I landed this nice male brownie.

Several outings through the end of April, into early May produced plenty of fish every time.

In early May I fished Brokenstraw Creek and landed, then released, my biggest trout ever, this 23" Golden.

As the weather warmed and the stockers started to thin out, I hit my favorite cold water natural reproduction stream in the ANF.

Father's Day weekend came and I somehow hit the jackpot. I hit the creek at daybreak, fishing with hellgrammites and on the third cast, got this really nice 22" bow to bite.

After a brief storm, I hit the same hole the very next day, using hellgrammites again, and landed this 21.5" bow and 20" brown. I'll tell you what, I bought those Gulp hellgrammites, not thinking they would do much but man oh man do the fish go nuts for them!

And then the rains came, and kept coming. My small ANF creek has been the only thing fishable but it has been great fishing.

Awesome pictures and congrats on the great season.

I noticed your later caught big rainbow and brown have big heads but thin bodies. My guess is they were big stockies and couldn't find enough to eat for their large size.

The horizon is your starting point.

Re: Great Year So Far

Thanks for releasing that behemoth golden rainbow. That's very considerate of you. Maybe some young boy or girl caught it on another day and it became something they'll remember for the rest of their life.

I can be contacted at [email protected].
