My Turn!

After reading and being envious of all the other trout posts, I finally finished up the last in-service day Wednesday, so Thursday I hit one of the more popular wild trout streams in the area right at daybreak. I started the morning out two-fisting it...that is...carrying the fly rod and the spinning rod, but I couldn't manage any on nymphs, and didn't see a single rise, so I lightened my load around 9 and just focused on fishing spinners. Water was a little more turbid then I had anticipated, so I was a little hesitant, but the 7th cast cheered me up.

A few more smaller ones and then I hooked up with a nearly 2 foot brown. Got him in the net, but it was pouring and I didn't want to risk soaking the camera so you'll have to take my word!

Picked up a few nicer ones mixed in with some smaller ones for the next few hours.

The next stretch started out surprisingly slow, until this guy nailed the spinner...downside of fishing alone, you can't hold the good fish with 2 hands!

Ended the morning with 3 more fish over 18"

Went downstream to some of the stocked water and picked up 12 more to end the day with 48 total trout before being chased off the water by a storm.

Beautiful and healthy fish. Very fat too. Looks like a great time out.

Re: My Turn!

Ditching the fly rod was a good move if you wanted to catch a bunch of trout.

You may have caught more big trout in one day than I've caught all year. I suspect the cloudy water contributed to your success.

Sounds like a great day.

Thanks for sharing it.

Re: My Turn!

Really nice photos, healthy fish. Those browns have some shoulders on them!

Re: My Turn!

Well done. I look forward to your post from 'there' each year. You always tackle some large trout.
