how big do you keep them

Just wondering what your cut off is for size of trout that you would keep.

I mainly practice C&R but when I fish with my uncles I often keep a few. I try to keep the cut off at 10-11" Mostly looking for that 11" number but if they are a hefty 10" trout we will keep them.

IF they bleed or something we keep them as long as they are the minimum.

Re: how big do you keep them

From the time I started trout fishing until my late 20's I kept everything that was legal size. In my 30's, only if they were larger than 12 inches. In my 40's, all catch and release. Now in my late 40's, all of my trout fishing is almost exclusively with a fly rod.

The horizon is your starting point.

Large enough to make it worth my while to clean...or anything legal that is bleeding.

Re: how big do you keep them

I return all wild trout.

On a nearby stream that is stocked I usually make a trip when water temps are getting warm, usually around early June, and keep 5 to eat, because in this stream the summer heat would kill them anyway.

I keep the first 5 stockies I catch, without regard to size.

Sounds about right. I usually release anything under 11-12". Larger trout get kept or released, depending on my mood at that moment.

I'm also more prone to keep browns rather than others, and will usually indulge in a meal of wild fish once a season.

If you're having trouble hunting for deer,
don't wish things were easier;
wish you were smarter.
