Stocking Day Bad

When is the prime time to fish for stocked trout? I have noticed when I fish immediately after a stocking in a lake, fishing is not great. I think the fish have to get acclimated to the water. They also swim to the nearest structure and gradually move to deep channels. When is the peak time? 1 day after? 2days? 3days?

Re: Stocking Day Bad

On the streams the best time to fish for trout that have just been stocked is the next morning right at daybreak. I assume the same would apply to lakes.

Re: Stocking Day Bad

On streams people often catch large numbers of trout IMMEDIATELY after stocking.

I don't know about lakes.

Re: Stocking Day Bad

Last year we were fishing a section of pine creek when the stock truck showed up. About 30 minutes after they left it was trout after trout. I have only fished the lake once right after the stock truck and it was about the same. 30 minutes or so after they left fish were hammering.
