Trout Streams near morgantown.

Hey Guys, I'm working near Morgantown and would like some advise on trout streams in the area. I looked at the PFC site and swamp creek and French creek look to be the closest. Any info and advise would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Trout Streams near morgantown.

I haven't fished either of those creeks but I have fished Hay Creek at Birdsboro. That's a little farther but not real far. I'd say 12-13 miles from Morgantown. They stock Hay Creek along Rt.82 from Birdsboro down to White Bear Road. It's mostly a wooded area. A section of Rt. 82 is closed to traffic however. The road washed away a long time ago from Hurricane Agnes. I guess the ground was too unstable to ever make repairs. They have a gate across the roadway. They open the gate though for the fish truck to drive back and stock fish. You must park at the gate and walk. You should be able to find fish as long as you don't wander too far from the roadway.

If your working right in Morgantown then you're a hop, skip, and a jump from Chester Co. If you travel South you'll find E. Brandywine, W. Brandywine, Buck Creek, Beaver Creek, and Pickering Creek.

Hay Creek (as previously stated) is also a nice creek that's nearby.

Best of luck and don't be afraid to check them out.

Unless you like seeing tons of trash and high numbers of anglers stay away from hay creek till about mid May. Fished very hard and people there are pigs.

Re: Trout Streams near morgantown.

French Creek right in St. Peters village is a pretty cool stretch of stream. There are lots of big boulders and some nice pools and pocket water there.

I was there in the summer and didn't fish, just noticed that it's a nice looking stretch of stream.

You can park at the upper end of the village, then walk across a footbridge, and there's a trail along the other side of the creek.

Don't forget the Yough. It's a great float trip if ya have the time.

Truth.

I will be there opening day but not until well after 3pm when most others have gone.

Big Sandy Creek is a really good trout stream about 15 east of Morgantown in Bruceton Mills, WV.....
