The MY did damage.

This is not me ranting. However, I want to share my observations with the HPA family.

The MY decimated Manada creek. We couldn't locate a single stocked trout this afternoon with bread. We took a drive up Clark creek. We located fish but they were so spooky. We stopped many places and couldn't locate goldens. Nothing bigger than 12 inches. The trout were terrified when we threw bread into the water.

There was a photo on the PFBC Facebook page with a crew of teenagers and 20 year old men holding up trophy trout.

Again, just an observation. I am kind of happy in a way that the trout are spooked. They will survive a bit longer than usual.

Re: The MY did damage.

So the MY did damage, but you walking along the stream throwing bread at them wouldn't disturb them at all?

Traditions only last if you pass them down to your kids!

Re: The MY did damage.

In 2 weeks I will get to see what happens on the west side of the state on the MY day as I will be taking out my nephew. Will probably carry a rod with me.

The stream we plan to fish has a fair number of kids there on the opener so it will be interesting to see how many partake in this new opportunity if they even know about here. Just about everyone I mentioned it to had no idea of the change.

I support all hunters, regardless of weapon or technique!

I don't know what you're getting at, but stocked trout in a typical year are not the least bit scared of folks feeding them prior to the season. They swarm to the bread or corn being thrown in and compete for it. It gets to the point where the fish will swarm to a small pebble or stick because they want to eat it first. Today they were spooked from the noise.

My point was you making noise and disturbing them would spook them as well. If left alone they will settle down on their own.

Lot of people get wound up over some stocked trout IMHO.

Re: The MY did damage.

All the MY advocates on here would say that you must be mistaken about Manada creek, since they all insisted that there will be plenty of trout left for the regular opener. I get up to Clark once a season and the water is always gin clear and any big trout that are stocked there can easily be spotted by fishermen, so I'm not surprised if most of the big ones there were caught.

It will be interesting to hear the reports come in when the regular opener arrives. Then we will learn the impact.

Re: The MY did damage.

If I didn't know better I would believe Manada wasn't stocked. I was legitimately disgusted. Can somebody confirm that Manada was indeed stocked? I swear it couldn't have been.

And all the anti MY will suck this up and run with it because it's what they want to hear, what's your point???? Isn't it clear by now that there are two distinct and opposing sides to this who will never agree???? Isn't it equally clear to everyone who frequents this forum that no matter how long we continue to beat this long dead horse that it just ain't gonna get up and run????

Re: The MY did damage.

I couldn't care less about pellet heads. I was just sharing my observation. I think I have gone to 2 first days of trout in the past 10 years. I was just sharing my observations. This opener will be much more difficult. There will be changes to the MY for next year, I guarantee it. If anybody things folks are upset now with MY, just wait until lunchtime on Saturday.
