I got my sons a guided day trip to fly fish the Casselman river stretch in Grantsville,MD. Anyone familiar with this water?

Re: Casselman RIver MD

I drove over and by it many times when I used to do a lot of work in Garrett County, Maryland but never fished it. I've fished the Savage River which is close to that, great trout fishing there and even better trout fishing in the Potomac River below Jennings Randolph Lake.

I grew up in Salisbury Pa, which basically borders grantsville. I've grown up fishing that river. Maryland throws out beautiful Browns that also make it into PA. Great trout river. Really senic. A ton of history on that river dating back to the French and Indian war. Check out the Yough river too if ha get the chance. Probably the best trout river in southwest pa.

Re: Casselman RIver MD

I used to fish the Casselman often around Salisbury when they would actually put fish in ? Pretty sure it receives only ONE in-season stocking toward the back of May, and that is just a horrible thing to do (PFBC) in my estimation. They are better off putting resources (Fish), to colder water mountain streams.

Yough ? Yeah, nice river, but did you ever try to deal with that Green Algae ? EVERY cast pulling that stuff off your line. Is there no way to kill some of that stuff off ? And where the heck does it originate from ?

To your question. I've never fished Grantsville area. North Branch Potomac can be really good fishing. Barnum, WV area. And you can fish it with either a WV or MD license, as the river splits both.
