The above is the testimony of the PFSC to the PGC at the meeting during the public comment session. This wasn't the PGC voting.

What is wrong with the other 2 Saturday’s? Or the 6 in archers or 3 in muzzleloader?

Adding Sunday’s changes the conversation quite a bit.
1. Deer-only Hunters still buy licenses.

2. Depending upon proximity of their school to home and to hunting locations, Thanksgiving Saturday might be the only day available to hunt for them (ruling out archery Saturdays outside of Fall Break weekend as well).

3. Rifle-only deer-only Hunter still buy licenses. Ever been at a PGC license outlet on Thanksgiving weekend? Piles of licenses are sold to hunters young and old who only chase the magical PA buck in rifle season. Should they be excluded from license and season conversations because they only hunt deer with one weapon?

4. Agreed - Sundays absolutely changes the game....and I cannot wait for that.

Yes. From what I am hearing the Sunday Hunting bill has a real shot at possibly going thru this year. I could see the BOC tabling the Saturday opener to see what happens with Sunday. Perhaps they should because they may want to reevaluate what they are going to do with the additional opportunity.

ok and after all that the last question comes into play...will they buy a license after college? If it yes, it is probably also yes if they miss the deer opener.

Yeah I know. I figure it was a done deal from the get go. I could be wrong.

I thought that at a few times in the discussions. At this point I won’t be surprised either way.

A Saturday opener will still be a great thing for a young professional that wants to continue to hunt deer.....with limited vacation time and being low on the proverbial vacation totem pole.

As to if he/she would still buy a license...I do not know - only that college student can answer that. In my humble opinion - why take the chance. Let them get out with their family when they are home on Thanksgiving break!

For that matter, let the hunter that cannot get off Monday get out there on Saturday, too. Maybe after 55 years of a Saturday opener, we might change it up again. Ha.

As a side note, anyone here on a Maryland hunting forum? How ever do those hunters manage to get to their deer hunting spots/camps just 2 days after the Thanksgiving holiday?

A Saturday opportunity for some for rifle deer. Loss of opportunity for others. Loss for the grouse, pheasant and bird dog folks. Loss of opportunity for the rabbit hunters and beagles. A Saturday loss for the squirrel hunters. Several years ago the PGC BOC added a special later turkey season for the Thankgiving Holiday to include the Saturday after Thanksgiving for increased turkey hunting opportunities.
I just wanted to offer those that say there is no loss in opportunity unless you value a fall Saturday hunting the species mentioned. If you own bird dogs or rabbit dogs this is a big deal. I guess the argument could be made that changing the starting day for the deer rifle opener is worth the loss in hunting opportunities for the turkey and small game hunters.
