* Rep. Garth D. Everett * Provide the PA Game Commission (PGC) the Ability to Regula

House of Representatives
Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session
MEMORANDUM
Posted: March 28, 2019 11:15 AM
From: Representative Garth D. Everett
To: All House members
Subject: Provide the PA Game Commission (PGC) the Ability to Regulate Sunday Hunting on a Limited Basis

In the near future I plan on introducing legislation to provide the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) the ability to regulate Sunday hunting on a limited basis. Specifically, my legislation would remove the current Sunday hunting restrictions from the statute and give PGC, at their option, the ability to institute Sunday hunting by regulation on no more than two Sundays during the rifle deer season and one Sunday during the rifle bear season. The legislation will include a three-year sunset provision on this authorization for limited Sunday hunting should the General Assembly not act to make Sunday hunting permanent.

The legislation would not specifically set the seasons for deer and bear rifle seasons, rather it would allow PGC to authorize Sunday hunting in conjunction with those two seasons. I believe this is a reasonable compromise that increases the opportunity for hunters to get out in the woods during our two most popular hunting seasons, while limiting the impact of Sunday hunting on other stakeholders. I also believe that implementing Sunday hunting on this limited basis will allow the public, PGC and the General Assembly to assess the popularity and impacts of Sunday hunting.

Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. Contact Chanin Zwing with any questions at 787-5270 or via e-mail at [email protected].

Love the sunset provision. If only he'd tossed in a couple Sundays for pheasants where they are stocked on SGL's and a couple for grouse.

If Sunday hunting was not already illegal, who among us would not laugh at making it so?

I would prefer just to give the PGC regulatory authority for all and let the decision be with them for what seasons. I also question why there is nothing in there for small game, groundhog, furbearers, etc. Those are low impact seasons compared to deer and bear.

Traditions only last if you pass them down to your kids!

That seems completely backwards to me. Deer and bear should be the last to come if doing it on a trial basis. Groundhog and pheasant should be first.

Either way it should be the PGC s decision.

Honestly, if a sunset limited pilot is how we move the ball forward, Iím for it.

These weekends with rainy Saturdays and beautiful sundays will put me in the loony bin eventually! Lol

So send him a note. I just did asking him to consider changing the 2 days of rifle deer to jusr 2 days of deer so neither rifle nor bow hunters would feel left out.

If Sunday hunting was not already illegal, who among us would not laugh at making it so?
