How long are your safety harnesses good for?

So i've had a HSS tree stalker for probably 7 or 8 years now. I got to reading the tags on the inside of the harness and it says that the harness is only good for 5 years after first use. After that serious bodily harm or death may occur if you happen to fall. So i'm wondering how many of you do change out and buy new saftey harness say every 5 years? I'll likely get a new one because I'd rather pay the $100 for a new one then eat from a straw the rest of my life and have HSS say "told ya so"

About every 3-4 years. Mainly because I just feel like trying a new harness. I really like the Muddy harness I have now so I will probably just buy another one when the time comes.

I think they are just CYA plus want to sell more harnesses! I hunt most every day during archery and can't see where anything is going to wear out with typical use?

Could be a legal thing. Most manufacturer want to limit their time period of their responsibility and of course to sell you new products.

I would think with proper care and storage they would last many years; however, do what makes you feel safe.

This ^ & ultra-violet rays do wear on threads & other materials used. They most likely tested how long this takes in direct sunlight & that is the limit they put on it.

When the temps drop ,I wear mine under the outer layers. Come to think about it , I usually have my stands placed in the shade so I would agree that the harnesses see very little sunlight.

Re: How long are your safety harnesses good for?

Only reason i'm feeling like i outta get a new one, numerous occasions it's gotten soaked and wet, and i didn't get it dried in time... it's gotten mildewy, been out in the sun (i hunt early season (MD in Sept) so it's out in the sun, and alot of times when i've been using the linemans strap i've heard and felt things stretch and tear... Figure better safe than sorry

Everything wears out over time. From movement, to weather, to UV rays (present even in the shade but different than direct sun). Nothing lasts forever. Motorcycle helmets have a 5 year lifespan due to foam degrading. Safety harness will wear out as well.
