Thumb release thoughts...

Thinking of going to a thumb release(for hunting & target). If you were to buy one, which one would you go with and why?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Thumb release thoughts...

Like anything in life, there are high end products and lower end products (notice I said "lower" not low). I have been shooting a Carter Chocolate Lite for 4 years, both for target and hunting. I like those because I can put a very light spring in it for 3D and target, and then go with a stiffer spring for hunting. I can also adjust the trigger travel to suit my needs. TRU Ball makes a good variety of thumb trigger releases as well. Your best bet is to go somewhere where you can shoot them first.

Wishing I was at camp!

Re: Thumb release thoughts...

I went through the same thing last year after shooting a wrist strap style release my whole life. I ended up buying the tru-fire hardcore 4 finger. It took about a week of consistent shooting to get use to it. I ended up shooting two deer with it this past year.... I also just purchased a tru-ball boss X 3 finger about 2 months ago from my boss. I really like this release. It was a little different getting use to the 3 finger but other than that its awesome. Everything on it is adjustable and I believe it made me a more accurate shooter especially beyond 40 yards.

Re: Thumb release thoughts...

I used a thumb all of last year and killed a few deer. I go back and forth, and back and forth again.

Re: Thumb release thoughts...

Started using a Carter thumb release last year. 1 harvest so far...took a little getting used to in the beginning, but I'm happy with it.

Bigfoot saw me but nobody believes him!

Re: Thumb release thoughts...

The biggest advantage to a thumb release for hunting is that most of them you can attach to your string loop and your hand is free from having a release attached to it.

The older I get the better I was.

Re: Thumb release thoughts...

I just picked up a Hot Shot Vapor, 4 finger. It is sweet! This is the first that I have ever used any type of thumb release and I have been very pleased with it so far.
