that goes in the front pin that holds the lock to the stock. it holds your ramrod in place. When replacing it make sure you thread the lock screw back through it with the hooked portion towards the butt end of your stock and the hook facing up. If you get it backwards youll know right away because you'll either not be able to push your ramrod down the entire way or it wont "lock" inside the forend of your gun.
