Looking for some opinions on shot distance

I'm shooting a Buckskinner carbine with 65 grains of 3F and a patched roundball. I get some pretty good grouping at 50 yards with this load. I'm thinking that might be pushing it for trying to shoot a deer at that distance in terms of energy. If anybody could offer any insight to this it would be greatly appreciated.

Your load should be fine to 50 yds or a little farther as long as you hit the heart lung vital area and avoid heavy bone.

That load is more than adequate at 50 yards. Go to the Goex web site and you can get an idea of energy:

At 50 yards your still running around 1000 fps. It really drops off after that though. I would not go any further than 50 with that load. I prefer about 80 gr with round ball as a hunting load. Each gun has its own "favorit load" though.

Good luck.
