Weird morning...…………..

My daughter wasn't getting outta bed...…...nothing weird about that. So I refrained from going back to where I saw all the bucks yesterday. Still saving that for the day (if it comes) when she rolls out at 5:45...……. haha !!

Got fresh snow cover late yesterday afternoon. Only crossed 2 deer tracks on the walk in the dark up to my #1 flintlockin' spot. Things are usually over and done with by 8:00-8-15 at this particular place. Usually average seeing a minimum of 8-12 deer. All I saw was a fox squirrel.

So I took pictures...……….

Dropped a conical down the barrel without the plastic collar around it. Pretty stupid on my part. Slid right down with no resistance but won’t come back out. Any danger or concerns I should be aware of before I shoot it ?

Make sure it is down on the charge and fire it.

Saw 4 yearling this morning. I wouldnt have shot them anyway but they were to far. Great hunting this morning with just enough snow to cover the ground. Made seeing them a lot easier.

Went to a new stand I setup yesterday morning. Looked like a great setup but the tree angled out. It sticks over a 75’ cliff overlooking a small clearing along the gorge. Thought maybe walking that path to my other stand was spoiling them. I know to climb a new stand but in my rush didn’t. That joker didn’t angle away it corkscrewed as I climbed it. Needless to say I wasn’t risking dangling 75’ until someone found me so I sat 90 degrees to the overlook. 8 AM 5 doe walked right under me by the gorge. Weak hand and flintlocks make for poor sight alignment. No way to get stabile so I watched them feed and listened to deer bedding all around me until 10:30 then I cautiously climbed down and made too much noise setting up on a different tree. Dropped a mitt liner to the base of the first tree and all but slid off the ledge grabbing it. The new tree is on the access path vs. 8’ down the ledge so much more comfortable. It’s not a heavily used trail but some locals hike it so hopefully my noise didn’t disturb them.

Between there and the other stand down there they’ve got the ground tore up. During rifle I counted 20 one morning. Soon as they are on the menu they became ghosts.
