Opinions on what I'm looking for

So have been hunting deer with a flintlock since I was twelve and ten years later I realized im addicted to it. Currently I use my paps old TC 50 Cal hawken which has done great for me. However I'm really set on getting a smoothbore for small game. Now here's where I need some clarification. Am I crazy for thinking there's a smoothbore that can be loaded for small game and be dependable with a round ball for deer out to 50 yards? I feel like this is the point of trade guns? I'm really drawn to a fusil de Chasse from what I've seen on the internet I'm not afraid to spend some money and am open minded to a custom build. That being said does anyone have some recommendations for a builder that could get me what I need in the 1k-1800 range am I thinking on the right track? I don't want to build one as I'm not set up for it and I don't want to get something tacky. Thanks for the input!

I hunted exclusively with a North West trade gun I built back in the mid 80's for 25 years. shot everything in PA with it except a bear. You can't go wrong with a smoothbore, you will love it! I would suggest places like Track of the wolf for a "kit" to save some money. there is minimal inletting and work to do as opposed to a long rifle. you could always buy one "in the white" which only needs finished.

Beware of the man that hunts with one gun. He probable knows how to use it very well.
