Saturday I found some decent bear sign and one alarmingly large pile of “do bears crap in the woods?” proof.
By the size of this pile, I might be building a .75 cal flinter to take come October.

I am hoping to carry my 62 cal smoothbore for bear if I can get it shooting well enough. That will be around a 325 grain roundball. Quite a bit more wieght than my 50 cal.

Sam Fadala had some interesting concepts on smooth bore load chains in the Black Powder Loading Manual. I Think I still have a copy on hand in my gun room, but you should be able to look him up on line.

Hope that helps.

Not sure if I should use my 50 caliber encore shooting 150 grains pellets plus Barnes bullets or 54 caliber shooting 100 grains powder along with buffalo bore bullets

70 grains of 3f worked very well on deer for 25 years. that is the same load I carried in bear season.
