Only need one more part for squirrel rifle build.

I finally assembled all the parts I need to build my Andrew Verner style squirrel rifle. The only part left that I need is a side plate. After my first build I decided I can make my own side and toe plates, so I'm going to simply buy some sheet brass from the craft store or Lowes for those. On my last build I made the side plate from some scrap 16 gauge sheet metal I had lying around in the garage. Waiting until winter sets in and deer season is over to start the build.

The best way to go Bluebird ..
I do this on all my builds ..

Advise .. wait until you have the gun final shaped (especially around the lock area) also have the lock bolts installed . Then draw the the sideplate directly to the gun and trace and apply the pattern to the brass , then cut and file ... inlet etc ...
This will give the proper size and it'll fit the gun properly ..

Enjoy .. Allen

Good advice, thanks...

I found it fun and exciting to buy all the parts required for the gun, instead of buying a prearranged kit, which usually is overpriced simply from a "I need to pay my employees to put all the parts in the box" standpoint.

Yeah, for toe plates and side plates, I'll never buy one pre made again. They're simple to make yourself. Usually I only do one lock bolt anyway, so the side plate doesn't have to be some long drawn out affair, although with this squirrel gun I may just copy one I see online just for authenticity's sake.
