Denny, you really need to get down to Dixon's Gunmakers Fair one of these summers. You can not walk away from a visit to the Fair without experiencing a black powder epiphany!
I'm only 30 miles away, so making the trip three days in a row seems only right. It is a step back in time where you can witness barrel making, barrel rifling, filing the 8-sided flats, and swamping the barrel!
Today, the lower pasture was filled with cars, trucks, and vans from all corners of North America! If it takes a flintlock to ignite the charge in the barrel, Dixon's Gunmakers Fair is the place to be on the last weekend in July every summer.
All the accouterments needed to service the flintlock and the shooter, are readily available! If the historical importance of Pennsylvania gunmakers to the nature of the settling of our State, is of interest, then put the Fair on your 2012 calendar!
I'll buy lunch next year!
