Get PCN on TV?

If you do, there's a show on right now from a gun fair that's pretty dang interesting! At the moment, Hartranft is hand-rifling a barrel the way it was done in the good ol' days. Or as he calls 'em, "borrels".

Before that, it was a feller named Wheeler on stock making.

Rats! It's over. Was filmed at Kempton in 2009.

Re: Get PCN on TV?

Denny, you really need to get down to Dixon's Gunmakers Fair one of these summers. You can not walk away from a visit to the Fair without experiencing a black powder epiphany!

I'm only 30 miles away, so making the trip three days in a row seems only right. It is a step back in time where you can witness barrel making, barrel rifling, filing the 8-sided flats, and swamping the barrel!

Today, the lower pasture was filled with cars, trucks, and vans from all corners of North America! If it takes a flintlock to ignite the charge in the barrel, Dixon's Gunmakers Fair is the place to be on the last weekend in July every summer.

All the accouterments needed to service the flintlock and the shooter, are readily available! If the historical importance of Pennsylvania gunmakers to the nature of the settling of our State, is of interest, then put the Fair on your 2012 calendar!

I'll buy lunch next year!

Re: Get PCN on TV?

I believe an ol' bud of mine goes out to Dixon's frequently and probably goes to this show? He's been building muzzle loaders for years, but is too pricey for me. Does beautiful work.

Two years ago he showed me a flinter he'd just finished. Tapered octagon barrel, half stock in 50 cal. IIRC? Some of the guys at our club were making a fuss over it, one wanted to know how much he expected to sell it for. Think he wanted $1500 for that little beauty, including the accessories he'd made to go with it.

Might have been longer ago than that, come to think of it? Because the rear sight looked alot like a peep, before peeps were adopted here. When I called him on that, he gave me his bifocals so I could see the wee slit in the top of the sight.

He claimed that made it buckhorn, not a peep. Told him he'd better tote a magnifying glass that winter, if he was gonna hunt with it and got checked?
