january 9th

Went out to the SGL this morning with expectations of seeing something this time.Fresh snow in the woods and walked in before day break.Got settled at about legal shooting time and only flushed some turkey out of roost that have been feeding in the area all fall.No deer seen. Some fresh tracks in same area I have been seeing sign.Set of tracks running so I may have spooked them off the acorns. Not sure where they are hiding, but must be feeding at night.Have only seen one deer in morning of the first day of mzl there at 7:30 a.m., but lots of sign every time it snowed that I went back. These deer are not being hnted in that area.Have not seen a hunter all year anywhere around there.May just call it a season.Scouting has been fun in the snow, but would of liked to at least seen some deer.

I just came back in from stalking around since 8:30. Gonna grab a bite and head to a blind to sit for the evening. Saw 6 as I was trying to get to a ridge to look down the side they like to sun on. They scooted out and down the ridge straight for the laurel.

16 years and counting. Welcome to the life of a Buffalo Bills fan!

Got out around noon here. Looks like they were moving earlier than my arrival. Nothing seen so far, and a lot less tracks that Saturday when I was out.

Shortly after typing my first post I tried walking across a beaver dam, which I know better than to do this time of year. Got half way across and sunk my right boot up to the knee in water and mud. That ended the day for me...

I put this same post in the archery Jan 9th thread by accident. How did I end up over there? Any way, I had to work in the morning but got out for a couple hours this afternoon. And yes, there was deer sign everywhere. I still hunted where the edge of an over grown once farmed field gives way to young timber. Fresh tracks every where since the snow stopped. I was moving to fast and jumped a few from their beds.

Hunted from 2 until quitting time. Nothing. Lots of sign but the snow was so crunchy it was impossible to breathe without making noise. I sat the last hour and a half and saw a squirrel and a blue jay.
