Swing and a Miss

Headed into one of my blinds a bit early this evening so I could stalk my way to it. About 50 yards from it a lone doe was feeding. It's thick in there so I had to wait for a shot opportunity. Waiting for her to clear 3 small trees to have a nice broadside shot she beds down in a little divot. I snuck within 30 yards hoping I could see her body to get a shot. Couldn't. I waited for an hour she didn't budge. I gave her some ba's to try to get her up. She wasnt having it. Whistled, nope! Said hey a few times, nope! My arms felt like it was gonna fall off from holding up my gun against the tree so I put it down to hip level to give my arms a break. Within 10 seconds she jumps up and has me pegged looking right at me. Im froze. She slightly turns and the white flag goes up and I pulled up the gun and put the sights on her as quick as I could. As soon as I pulled the trigger I knew it was a miss. Deer1 Me0. Still followed her tracks for a couple hundred yards. No blood. Clean miss, which I'm thankful for.

16 years and counting. Welcome to the life of a Buffalo Bills fan!

2 times when she was laying there she turned her head looking back over her shoulder and I had a little window and I mean little where I could have takin a crack at like half the neck and side of the head but Im not taking that shot. Not that I would condemn someone who did but it's not for me with the smokepole.

You knew what your limitations are and waited for the shot you knew you would make. That's good. Real good. Sometimes being a sportsman means no meat today. You sill have plenty of time.

You did right thing ...No need for that it only causes wounded deer ..Behind shoulder or Buck walks with me ...I sleep at night knowing I have not wounded a deer ..I bet I have left go over years close to 40 bucks because I did not have clean shot and some were 12 points but most 8 point Bucks..

You would not believe the wounded deer I heard of in archery this year because hunters taking bad shots with bows..1 camp wounded 9 deer 3 nice bucks in archery all bad shots not waiting for behind shoulder shot with arrow...

I saw gun shots the whole top of back blown out on deer with 7mm rem mag ..GASTLY for sure all because of bad shots at running deer ....
